Yiddish Book Center

Orientation Gallery

Amherst. Massachusetts

Design by Roger Westerman Design, Brooklyn New York

The Yiddish Book Center is a nonprofit organization working to tell the whole Jewish story by rescuing, translating, and disseminating Yiddish books and presenting  educational programs that broaden understanding of modern Jewish identity. To date, the Center has saved over one million books that otherwise would have been lost.

To help tell their story, the Center engaged Roger Westerman Design to plan a video based Orientation Gallery.  Located off the main entrance, visitors are invited to view a video telling the story of the founding of the Center.  When the Start button is pressed, the room lights dim and the video begins.  At the end, the room lights brighten and the system awaits the next visitor.  Pressing the Stop button stops the video and forces the room lights on full.

Equipment includes a BrightSign HD video player, a custom interface box, and two Kelmar LCS-AS2.4 Lamp Dimmers.  The block diagram may be viewed by clicking the link below.
